The 86th Masters came to a close, with Scottie Scheffler taking home the coveted green jacket.

Being the golf fan I am, of course I have a few thoughts on the tournament. After all, I’ve been playing the sport since I could walk (literally).

I do have to share a clip from his final hole firstly, though.

The nerves finally got to him.

I have to hand it to Scottie, he really impressed me throughout the week. This man played rock solid all week long and his only “breakdown” came at the 72nd hole. Quite impressive for a first time major winner, if you ask me.

If we recall back to 2019 when Tiger had his victory, it seemed like everyone began to crack on Amen Corner. Molinari ended up hitting his tee shot into the water at the 12th hole and it cost him his small cushion of a lead. It was certainly the turning point for a seasoned pressure player like Tiger to take advantage of and run away with the win.

That’s how these majors work though, the mental game is the most important. When you’re competing at the highest level in the world with all the greats, it begins to hit you come back 9 at Augusta on Sunday.

I can say I’m very impressed this didn’t hit Scottie in the slightest. Cameron Smith ended up dunking his tee shot on 12 into the water as well and Scottie played a safe shot towards the middle of the green.

These things differentiate the player from the golfer. Scottie’s mental game was rock solid and truly deserved that win. While I’m upset we couldn’t see another Tiger Woods fantasy story, I don’t necessarily think his days are over.

Never count out the Tiger.
